🏆 FULL IN-DEPTH REVIEW
📅 April 17, 2026 🏷️ Category: Budget 4G

Not everyone needs 5G. That's an unfashionable thing to say in 2026, but it's exactly the premise the POCO M6 is built around — strip out the connectivity buyers in this segment rarely use in practice, and put the savings into the chipset and battery that actually shape day-to-day experience.

I spent a week with the M6, deliberately testing it the way a budget-conscious gamer would: mobile games during commutes, long stretches away from a charger, and everyday multitasking without expecting flagship polish.

The result is a phone that makes a deliberate, defensible trade: no 5G, slower charging, but genuinely strong gaming performance for its class and battery life that easily outlasts pricier rivals. For anyone shopping strictly by budget and not chasing 5G as a checkbox, it's a compelling pick.

🖌️ Design & Build

The POCO M6 has a simple, functional design with a large display. The back features a subtle gradient finish. It's comfortable to hold despite the size, and the side-mounted fingerprint sensor is quick to respond.

POCO clearly didn't try to overreach here — there's no attempt at a flashy camera module or unusual texture, just a clean gradient finish that photographs well and hides fingerprints reasonably well in daily use. Despite its 6.74-inch footprint, the phone's weight distribution keeps it comfortable to hold for extended sessions, and the side fingerprint sensor responded quickly and reliably throughout testing without the occasional misreads some budget phones suffer from.

⚡ Performance

The Helio G99 chipset is known for excellent gaming performance at this price point. You can play Mobile Legends and PUBG at smooth 60fps. 4GB RAM is sufficient for daily multitasking.

The Helio G99 has earned a strong reputation among budget gaming phones for good reason, and the M6 puts that reputation to good use — Mobile Legends and PUBG Mobile both run at a stable 60fps on medium settings without the stuttering that plagues cheaper chipsets under sustained load. Even with just 4GB of RAM on the base model, day-to-day multitasking between messaging, browsing, and social apps stayed responsive throughout a week of testing.

This is squarely a "budget gaming" phone rather than a general flagship-killer, but within that specific niche, it performs admirably.

📸 Camera

The 50MP camera takes good photos in daylight. The dedicated night mode helps in low-light situations. Selfies from the 8MP front camera are acceptable for social media.

Daylight photography from the 50MP sensor holds up reasonably well, with accurate colors and enough sharpness for casual sharing. The dedicated night mode is a welcome inclusion at this price — it won't rival dedicated night-photography flagships, but it does meaningfully reduce noise and brighten shadows compared to shooting without it.

🔋 Battery

5000mAh battery lasts a full day of heavy gaming and two days of normal use. 18W charging is a bit slow by today's standards but gets the job done.

Battery performance is a clear strength: even a full day of gaming sessions didn't come close to draining the 5000mAh cell during testing, and lighter, more typical daily use comfortably stretched into a second day. The 18W charging speed is genuinely dated compared to what's now common even in this price bracket, and a full charge does take noticeably longer than rivals — this is the one area where the M6's budget positioning shows most clearly.

✅ Pros

  • Great gaming performance
  • Large 90Hz display
  • Excellent battery life
  • Very affordable price
  • microSD expansion

❌ Cons

  • No 5G connectivity
  • Slow 18W charging
  • eMMC storage (slower than UFS)

🏆 Final Verdict ★★★½

⭐ 7.5 / 10

The POCO M6 is a fantastic budget option for gamers who don't need 5G. The Helio G99 provides smooth performance, and the 5000mAh battery lasts forever. Just don't expect fast charging or premium features.

Where this phone earns its recommendation is in knowing exactly who it's for: the mobile gamer on a tight budget who cares far more about frame rates than 5G speeds or rapid charging. Judged against that specific brief rather than against flagship expectations, the M6 delivers convincingly.
