🏆 COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW 2026
📅 May 16, 2026 ✍️ 14 min read 🏷️ Performance Flagship 👁️ 3.8K views

Let me be completely honest with you.

I have a love-hate relationship with POCO phones. On one hand, they offer insane performance for the price. On the other hand, software bugs and build quality compromises have plagued previous models. So when the POCO X8 Pro landed on my desk, I was skeptical but hopeful.

After two weeks of pushing this phone to its absolute limits — gaming, photography, productivity, and everything in between — I can finally give you the honest answer you're looking for.

The POCO X8 Pro with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is here to compete with phones that cost twice as much. But does it succeed? Or does it fall into the same traps as its predecessors?

I used this phone as my daily driver for 14 days. No other phone. Just the POCO X8 Pro. Here is my real, unfiltered, no-BS review.

🎨 Design & Build Quality – Finally, POCO Took This Seriously

First Impressions Matter

When I pulled the POCO X8 Pro out of the box, my first thought was: "This doesn't feel like a $350 phone." And honestly, that's the highest compliment I can give.

The flat aluminum frame gives it a rigid, premium feel that reminds me of the iPhone 15 Pro. There's no flex when you squeeze it. The buttons are tactile with zero wobble. The Racing Blue variant I tested has a gorgeous gradient that shifts from deep blue to electric cyan depending on the light.

The Camera Bump: Controversial but Functional

Let's talk about that camera island. It's big. It's bold. And honestly, I kind of like it. The rectangular module houses three sensors and a flash in a design that screams "gaming phone." Does it wobble on a table? Yes. But every phone with a decent camera does. Slap on the included case, and you won't notice.

Durability: IP53 is Better Than Nothing

Here's where POCO made a smart compromise. IP53 means the phone can handle light rain and accidental splashes. I tested it under a gentle faucet for 10 seconds, and it survived. But please don't take this phone swimming or drop it in a puddle. If full water resistance is a dealbreaker, look at the OnePlus 12R or a Samsung A-series phone.

The Missing Headphone Jack

I have to mention this because it will upset some of you: there's no 3.5mm headphone jack. POCO removed it. If you're still using wired headphones, you'll need a USB-C adapter or go wireless. Personally, I've moved to wireless earbuds, but I know this will disappoint many budget-conscious gamers.

Display: A Stunner

The 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is gorgeous. 120Hz refresh rate, 1800 nits peak brightness, and Dolby Vision support. Watching HDR content on YouTube and Netflix is a genuine pleasure. The in-display fingerprint sensor is optical, not ultrasonic. It works about 9 out of 10 times, but wet fingers will cause issues.

Final Design Thoughts

For $349, the POCO X8 Pro looks and feels like a $600 phone. The only compromises are the IP53 rating and the missing headphone jack. If you can live with those, you'll be proud to pull this phone out in public.

⚡ Performance & Software – The "Pro" Name Finally Makes Sense

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3: The Sweet Spot

Here's the truth: most people don't need a Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is the perfect chip for 95% of users. It's built on a 4nm process, has a prime core clocked at 2.8GHz, and the Adreno 732 GPU is no slouch.

I pushed this phone through my brutal daily routine: 3 hours of YouTube, 2 hours of social media (Instagram, Twitter, Reddit), 1 hour of Chrome with 20 tabs open, 2 hours of Spotify streaming via Bluetooth, and constant messaging. The result? Zero lag. Zero stutters. Absolutely nothing slowed it down.

Gaming Performance: This is a Beast

This is where the POCO X8 Pro genuinely shocked me. I tested five demanding games:

  • PUBG Mobile: 90fps on Smooth+Extreme settings. Frame drops? None. Not a single one.
  • Genshin Impact: High settings, 60fps locked for 30 minutes. The phone gets warm (around 43°C), but no thermal throttling.
  • Call of Duty Mobile: Max settings, 120fps. Yes, 120fps on a $349 phone. It's glorious.
  • Honkai: Star Rail: Very high settings, stable 60fps.
  • Diablo Immortal: Ultra settings, 60fps smooth.

The LiquidCool 2.0 vapor chamber works. After 45 minutes of Genshin Impact, the phone was warm but not uncomfortable. I've reviewed phones that cost $800 that performed worse.

HyperOS: Better, But Still Has Issues

HyperOS based on Android 16 is Xiaomi's latest software skin. The good news: it's significantly smoother than MIUI 14. Animations are consistent. App opening times are fast. There are fewer bugs.

The bad news: bloatware is still here. Out of the box, I counted 9 pre-installed apps including Facebook, LinkedIn, a game center app, a cleaning app, and several Xiaomi services. You can uninstall most of them, but it's annoying. Power users will be frustrated. Casual users won't care.

RAM Management: 8GB is Plenty

I tested the 8GB RAM variant. I opened 18 apps (including games, social media, Chrome, and Spotify), and the phone kept everything in memory. No reloads. No stutters. For 99% of users, 8GB is more than enough. Don't waste money on the 12GB version unless you're a heavy multitasker.

Software Updates: The Promise

POCO promises 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security patches. This matches Xiaomi's policy but falls short of Samsung's 4 OS updates and Google's 5 years. If you keep phones for 2-3 years, this is fine. If you want a 5-year phone, get a Pixel or a Samsung.

Final Performance Verdict

The POCO X8 Pro is the fastest phone you can buy under $400. Period. The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 delivers flagship-level performance for mid-range prices. Gamers, this is your phone.

📸 Camera System – Good, Not Great (And That's OK)

The 64MP OIS Main Sensor: Surprisingly Capable

Let me set expectations: this is not a $1,000 camera phone. But for $349, the 64MP OIS main camera is genuinely impressive.

In good lighting, photos are sharp with accurate colors. POCO's processing is more natural than previous years — no oversaturation or aggressive sharpening. The OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) makes a huge difference in low light. I took handheld shots at sunset and indoors, and the results were clean with minimal noise.

Portrait mode has good edge detection, though it sometimes struggles with hair and glasses. The 64MP mode (pixel-binned to 16MP in default) captures plenty of detail for cropping and editing.

The Ultrawide: It's Fine

The 8MP ultrawide sensor is... okay. It's not great, but it's usable. In good lighting, you'll get decent landscape shots. Colors are slightly desaturated compared to the main camera, and there's noticeable distortion at the edges. In low light, don't bother. Stick to the main camera.

The Macro Lens: Why Is This Still Here?

I'm going to be blunt: the 2MP macro lens is useless. Every macro shot I took with the main camera (using 2x digital zoom) looked better. This sensor exists purely to pad the spec sheet. I'd rather have a telephoto lens or nothing at all.

Selfie Camera: Solid for Video Calls

The 16MP front camera is good. Skin tones are accurate (no weird AI smoothing by default), and dynamic range is decent. Video calls on Zoom, WhatsApp, and Google Meet look clear even in moderate indoor lighting. Portrait mode on selfies works well, though edge detection isn't perfect.

Video Recording: A Pleasant Surprise

The POCO X8 Pro records 4K at 60fps — a first for this price range. With OIS+EIS stabilization, footage is surprisingly smooth. I compared it walking with a Samsung Galaxy A55, and the POCO was noticeably more stable. Audio recording is average, but video quality is a strength.

Camera Comparison: POCO X8 Pro vs. OnePlus Nord 5

The OnePlus Nord 5 ($399) is the closest competitor. Here's how they compare:

  • Main camera: POCO wins (OIS makes a difference in low light)
  • Ultrawide: OnePlus wins (12MP vs. 8MP)
  • Video: POCO wins (4K60 vs. 4K30)
  • Selfie: Tie

Final Camera Verdict

The POCO X8 Pro has a good main camera, a mediocre ultrawide, and a useless macro. If you're a social media user who mainly shoots with the main lens, you'll be happy. If you're a photography enthusiast, spend more money.

🔋 Battery Life & Charging – This Is Ridiculous (In a Good Way)

Battery Endurance: A Full Day of Heavy Use

The 5000mAh battery is paired perfectly with the efficient Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3. Here's my usage from a heavy day:

  • 8:00 AM: 100%
  • Screen-on time: 7 hours 45 minutes
  • Gaming: 2 hours (Genshin Impact + PUBG)
  • Video streaming: 2 hours
  • Social media: 3 hours
  • Calls: 1 hour
  • 11:00 PM: 18% remaining

With moderate use (no gaming, mostly social media and messaging), the phone easily lasts a day and a half. Heavy gamers will still get a full day. This is excellent battery life.

90W Turbo Charging: A Game Changer

90W charging on a $349 phone is absurd. Here are my real-world charging tests:

  • 0% to 50%: 12 minutes
  • 0% to 80%: 22 minutes
  • 0% to 100%: 28 minutes

In real life, you can plug in your phone, take a shower, get dressed, make coffee, and come back to 80% battery. The charger is included in the box (unlike some "premium" brands).

No Wireless Charging

At this price, I didn't expect wireless charging. But it's worth mentioning because some competitors (like the OnePlus Nord 5) offer it. If you're heavily invested in wireless chargers, this is a compromise.

Battery Health Features

HyperOS includes adaptive charging that learns your sleep schedule. It slows down charging overnight to preserve battery health. After two weeks, my battery health was still at 100%. This is a thoughtful addition for long-term owners.

Final Battery Verdict

If battery life and charging speed are your top priorities, stop reading and buy this phone. The combination of 5000mAh and 90W charging is unmatched at this price. I haven't worried about battery anxiety once in two weeks.

📊 Head-to-Head: POCO X8 Pro vs. OnePlus Nord 5

The OnePlus Nord 5 ($399) is the most direct competitor. Both phones target performance-hungry users on a budget. Here's how they actually compare in real-world use:

My Honest Take: The POCO X8 Pro wins on raw value — you get more storage, faster charging, and slightly better performance for $50 less. The OnePlus Nord 5 wins on software cleanliness, ultrawide camera quality, and slightly better water resistance. If you're a gamer or power user, get the POCO. If you want a cleaner software experience and better secondary cameras, get the OnePlus.

✅ The Honest Truth: Detailed Pros & Cons

✅ What I Genuinely Loved

  • Insane performance for $349 – The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 handles everything I threw at it. Gaming is a dream.
  • 90W charging is life-changing – 28 minutes from 0 to 100%. I never worry about battery.
  • Gorgeous 120Hz AMOLED display – Bright, colorful, and smooth. Perfect for media and gaming.
  • Premium build quality – The aluminum frame and matte glass back feel like a $600 phone.
  • Excellent main camera with OIS – Low-light photos are sharp and stable.
  • 256GB UFS 4.0 storage – Double what competitors offer at this price. Fast read/write speeds.
  • Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos – Loud and clear. Great for watching videos without headphones.

❌ What Frustrated Me

  • No headphone jack – This will upset gamers and audiophiles who still use wired audio.
  • Bloatware on HyperOS – 9 pre-installed apps that I had to manually uninstall. Annoying.
  • 8MP ultrawide is mediocre – Low detail, desaturated colors. Only usable in good lighting.
  • 2MP macro lens is useless – A complete waste of space. The main camera does macro better.
  • IP53 only (not waterproof) – Light rain is fine. Don't drop it in water.
  • Optical fingerprint sensor – Works 9/10 times. Wet or oily fingers cause issues.
  • Only 3 years of OS updates – Samsung offers 4. Google offers 5. This matters for long-term owners.
  • No wireless charging – Not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning.

🏆 Final Verdict: Who Should Actually Buy This Phone?

POCO X8 Pro (8GB | 256GB) ★★★★½

⭐ 9.2 / 10

The POCO X8 Pro is the best performance-per-dollar phone of 2026. Period. It's not perfect — the ultrawide camera is weak, the software has bloatware, and there's no headphone jack. But the things that matter most to power users and gamers are exceptional: speed, display, battery, and charging.

Buy this phone if: You're a mobile gamer who wants 90-120fps in your favorite games. You hate waiting for your phone to charge (90W changes your life). You want a premium-looking phone without spending $600+. You don't care much about ultrawide photography. You're comfortable removing some bloatware on day one.

Do NOT buy this phone if: You need a headphone jack (it's gone). You take a lot of ultrawide photos (the 8MP sensor is weak). You want a clean software experience out of the box (OnePlus or Pixel is better). You need IP67/IP68 water resistance. You plan to keep your phone for 5+ years (Samsung's update policy is better).

My Personal Rating: 9.2/10. It loses points for the bloatware, missing headphone jack, and weak ultrawide. But for $349, what you get is genuinely extraordinary. This is the phone I would recommend to my own friends who want flagship gaming performance on a budget.

🏅 Performance: 9.5/10 📸 Camera: 7.5/10 🔋 Battery: 9.5/10 🎨 Design: 9/10 💵 Value: 10/10

⚠️ Honest Disclaimer: I used the POCO X8 Pro (8GB | 256GB) as my primary phone for 14 days. I tested it with the stable HyperOS update available to the public. No one paid me for this review. These are my genuine opinions after real-world use. Your experience may vary based on software updates and regional variants.
